Mark 2

Mark 2

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
The Paralytic Healed

When He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them. And they *came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men. Being unable to [a]get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof [b]above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying. And Jesus seeing their faith *said to the paralytic, [c]Son, your sins are forgiven.” But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, “Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins [d]but God alone?” Immediately Jesus, aware [e]in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, *said to them, “Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven’; or to say, ‘Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk’? 10 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—He *said to the paralytic, 11 “I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home.” 12 And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this.”

13 And He went out again by the seashore; and all the [f]people were coming to Him, and He was teaching them.

Levi (Matthew) Called

14 As He passed by, He saw [g]Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting in the tax booth, and He *said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.

15 And it *[h]happened that He was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and [i]sinners [j]were dining with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many of them, and they were following Him. 16 When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, “Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and [k]sinners?” 17 And hearing this, Jesus *said to them, It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

18 John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and they *came and *said to Him, “Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” 19 And Jesus said to them, “While the bridegroom is with them, [l]the attendants of the bridegroom cannot fast, can they? So long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. 20 But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.

Question of the Sabbath

23 And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the heads of grain. 24 The Pharisees were saying to Him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” 25 And He *said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry; 26 how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the [o]consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?” 27 Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath [p]was made [q]for man, and not man [r]for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

The Lord’s Supper Instituted

26 While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and [h]after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” 27 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

30 After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

31 Then Jesus *said to them, “You will all [i]fall away because of Me this night, for it is written, ‘I will strike down the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered.’ 32 But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” 33 But Peter said to Him, “Even though all may [j]fall away because of You, I will never fall away.” 34 Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you that this very night, before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” 35 Peter *said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You.” All the disciples said the same thing too.

The Garden of Gethsemane

36 Then Jesus *came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and *said to His disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed. 38 Then He *said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.”

39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” 40 And He *came to the disciples and *found them sleeping, and *said to Peter, “So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour? 41 Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

42 He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, Your will be done.” 43 Again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 And He left them again, and went away and prayed a third time, saying the same thing once more. 45 Then He *came to the disciples and *said to them, [k]Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Get up, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand!”

Jesus’ Betrayal and Arrest

47 While He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came up [l]accompanied by a large crowd with swords and clubs, who came from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now he who was betraying Him gave them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him.” 49 Immediately Judas went to Jesus and said, “Hail, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 50 And Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you have come for.” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and seized Him.

Exodus 35

Exodus 36

Exodus 35

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
The Sabbath Emphasized

Then Moses assembled all the congregation of the sons of Israel, and said to them, “These are the things that the Lord has commanded you to [a]do:

“For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a holy day, a sabbath of complete rest to the Lord; whoever does any work on it shall be put to death. You shall not kindle a fire in any of your dwellings on the sabbath day.”

Moses spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, “This is the thing which the Lord has commanded, saying, ‘Take from among you a [b]contribution to the Lord; whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as the Lord’s [c]contribution: gold, silver, and [d]bronze, and [e]blue, purple and scarlet material, fine linen, goats’ hair, and rams’ skins [f]dyed red, and porpoise skins, and acacia wood, and oil for lighting, and spices for the anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense, and onyx stones and setting stones for the ephod and for the [g]breastpiece.

Tabernacle Workmen

10 ‘Let every skillful man among you come, and make all that the Lord has commanded: 11 the [h]tabernacle, its tent and its covering, its hooks and its boards, its bars, its pillars, and its [i]sockets; 12 the ark and its poles, the [j]mercy seat, and the curtain of the screen; 13 the table and its poles, and all its [k]utensils, and the bread of the [l]Presence; 14 the lampstand also for the light and its utensils and its lamps and the oil for the light; 15 and the altar of incense and its poles, and the anointing oil and the fragrant incense, and the screen for the doorway at the [m]entrance of the tabernacle; 16 the altar of burnt offering with its [n]bronze grating, its poles, and all its [o]utensils, the [p]basin and its stand; 17 the hangings of the court, its pillars and its [q]sockets, and the screen for the gate of the court; 18 the pegs of the tabernacle and the pegs of the court and their cords; 19 the [r]woven garments for ministering in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests.’”

Gifts Received

20 Then all the congregation of the sons of Israel departed from Moses’ presence. 21 Everyone whose heart [s]stirred him and everyone whose spirit [t]moved him came and brought the Lord’s [u]contribution for the work of the tent of meeting and for all its service and for the holy garments. 22 Then all [v]whose hearts moved them, both men and women, came and brought brooches and [w]earrings and signet rings and bracelets, all articles of gold; so did every man who [x]presented an offering of gold to the Lord. 23 Every man, [y]who had in his possession [z]blue and purple and scarlet material and fine linen and goats’ hair and rams’ skins [aa]dyed red and porpoise skins, brought them. 24 Everyone who could make a [ab]contribution of silver and [ac]bronze brought the Lord’s [ad]contribution; and every man [ae]who had in his possession acacia wood for any work of the service brought it. 25 All the [af]skilled women spun with their hands, and brought what they had spun, in [ag]blue and purple and scarlet material and in fine linen. 26 All the women whose heart [ah]stirred with a skill spun the goats’ hair. 27 The rulers brought the onyx stones and the stones for setting for the ephod and for the [ai]breastpiece; 28 and the spice and the oil for the light and for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense. 29 The [aj]Israelites, all the men and women, whose heart [ak]moved them to bring material for all the work, which the Lord had commanded through Moses to be done, brought a freewill offering to the Lord.

30 Then Moses said to the sons of Israel, “See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 31 And He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding and in knowledge and in all [al]craftsmanship; 32 [am]to make designs for working in gold and in silver and in [an]bronze, 33 and in the cutting of stones for settings and in the carving of wood, so as to perform in every inventive work. 34 He also has put in his heart to teach, both he and Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. 35 He has filled them with [ao]skill to perform every work of an engraver and of a designer and of an embroiderer, in [ap]blue and in purple and in scarlet material, and in fine linen, and of a weaver, as performers of every work and makers of designs.

The Tabernacle Underwritten

“Now Bezalel and Oholiab, and every [a]skillful person in whom the Lord has put [b]skill and understanding to know how to perform all the work [c]in the construction of the sanctuary, shall perform in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded.”

Then Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab and every [d]skillful person in [e]whom the Lord had put [f]skill, everyone whose heart stirred him, to come to the work to perform it. They received from Moses all the [g]contributions which the sons of Israel had brought [h]to perform the work [i]in the construction of the sanctuary. And they still continued bringing to him freewill offerings every morning. And all the [j]skillful men who were performing all the work of the sanctuary came, each from [k]the work which [l]he was performing, and they said to [m]Moses, “The people are bringing much more than enough for the [n]construction work which the Lord commanded us to [o]perform.” So Moses issued a command, and a [p]proclamation was circulated throughout the camp, saying, “Let no man or woman any longer perform work for the [q]contributions of the sanctuary.” Thus the people were restrained from bringing any more. For the [r]material they had was sufficient and more than enough for all the work, to perform it.

Construction Proceeds

All the [s]skillful men among those who were performing the work made the [t]tabernacle with ten curtains; of fine twisted linen and [u]blue and purple and scarlet material, with cherubim, the work of a skillful workman, [v]Bezalel made them. The length of each curtain was twenty-eight [w]cubits and the width of each curtain four [x]cubits; all the curtains had [y]the same measurements. 10 He [z]joined five curtains to one another and the other five curtains he [aa]joined to one another. 11 He made loops of [ab]blue on the edge of the [ac]outermost curtain in the first [ad]set; he did likewise on the edge of the curtain that was [ae]outermost in the second [af]set. 12 He made fifty loops in the one curtain and he made fifty loops on the [ag]edge of the curtain that was in the second [ah]set; the loops were opposite each other. 13 He made fifty clasps of gold and [ai]joined the curtains to one another with the clasps, so the tabernacle was [aj]a unit.

14 Then he made curtains of goats’ hair for a tent over the tabernacle; he made eleven curtains [ak]in all. 15 The length of each curtain was thirty cubits and four cubits the width of each curtain; the eleven curtains had [al]the same measurements. 16 He [am]joined five curtains by themselves and the other six curtains by themselves. 17 Moreover, he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that was outermost in the first [an]set, and he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that was outermost in the second [ao]set. 18 He made fifty clasps of [ap]bronze to [aq]join the tent together so that it would be [ar]a unit. 19 He made a covering for the tent of rams’ skins [as]dyed red, and a covering of porpoise skins above.

20 Then he made the boards for the tabernacle of acacia wood, standing upright. 21 Ten cubits was the length of [at]each board and one and a half cubits the width of each board. 22 There were two tenons for each board, [au]fitted to one another; thus he did for all the boards of the tabernacle. 23 He made the boards for the tabernacle: twenty boards [av]for the south side; 24 and he made forty [aw]sockets of silver under the twenty boards; two [ax]sockets under one board for its two tenons and two [ay]sockets under another board for its two tenons. 25 Then for the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side, he made twenty boards, 26 and their forty [az]sockets of silver; two [ba]sockets under one board and two [bb]sockets under another board. 27 For the [bc]rear of the tabernacle, to the west, he made six boards. 28 He made two boards for the corners of the [bd]tabernacle at the [be]rear. 29 They were double beneath, and together they were complete to its [bf]top [bg]to the first ring; thus he did with both of them for the two corners. 30 There were eight boards with their [bh]sockets of silver, sixteen [bi]sockets, [bj]two under every board.

31 Then he made bars of acacia wood, five for the boards of one side of the tabernacle, 32 and five bars for the boards of the [bk]other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the tabernacle for the [bl]rear side to the west. 33 He made the middle bar to pass through in the [bm]center of the boards from end to end. 34 He overlaid the boards with gold and made their rings of gold as holders for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.

35 Moreover, he made the veil of [bn]blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen; he made it with cherubim, the work of a skillful workman. 36 He made four pillars of acacia for it, and overlaid them with gold, with their hooks of gold; and he cast four [bo]sockets of silver for them. 37 He made a screen for the doorway of the tent, of [bp]blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen, the work of a [bq]weaver; 38 and he made its five pillars with their hooks, and he overlaid their tops and their [br]bands with gold; but their five [bs]sockets were of [bt]bronze.
