Psalm 44
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Former Deliverances and Present Troubles.
For the choir director. A [a]Maskil of the sons of Korah.
O God, we have heard with our ears, Our fathers have told us The work that You did in their days, In the days of old. 2 You with Your own hand drove out the nations; Then You planted them; You afflicted the peoples, Then You spread them abroad. 3 For by their own sword they did not possess the land, And their own arm did not save them, But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence, For You favored them.
4 You are my King, O God; Command [b]victories for Jacob. 5 Through You we will push back our adversaries; Through Your name we will trample down those who rise up against us. 6 For I will not trust in my bow, Nor will my sword save me. 7 But You have saved us from our adversaries, And You have put to shame those who hate us. 8 In God we have boasted all day long, And we will give thanks to Your name forever. [c]Selah.
9 Yet You have rejected us and brought us to dishonor, And do not go out with our armies. 10 You cause us to turn back from the adversary; And those who hate us have taken spoil for themselves. 11 You give us as sheep [d]to be eaten And have scattered us among the nations. 12 You sell Your people [e]cheaply, And have not [f]profited by their sale. 13 You make us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to those around us. 14 You make us a byword among the nations, A [g]laughingstock among the peoples. 15 All day long my dishonor is before me And [h]my humiliation has overwhelmed me, 16 Because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles, Because of the presence of the enemy and the avenger.
17 All this has come upon us, but we have not forgotten You, And we have not dealt falsely with Your covenant. 18 Our heart has not turned back, And our steps have not deviated from Your way, 19 Yet You have crushed us in a place of jackals And covered us with the shadow of death.
20 If we had forgotten the name of our God Or extended our [i]hands to a strange god, 21 Would not God find this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart. 22 But for Your sake we are killed all day long; We are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. 23 Arouse Yourself, why do You sleep, O Lord? Awake, do not reject us forever. 24 Why do You hide Your face And forget our affliction and our oppression? 25 For our soul has sunk down into the dust; Our body cleaves to the earth. 26 Rise up, be our help, And redeem us for the sake of Your lovingkindness.
Whoever loves [a]discipline loves knowledge, But he who hates reproof is stupid. 2 A good man will obtain favor from the Lord, But He will condemn a man [b]who devises evil. 3 A man will not be established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous will not be moved. 4 An [c]excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones. 5 The thoughts of the righteous are just, But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful. 6 The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, But the mouth of the upright will deliver them. 7 The wicked are overthrown and are no more, But the house of the righteous will stand. 8 A man will be praised according to his insight, But one of perverse [d]mind will be despised. 9 Better is he who is lightly esteemed and has a servant Than he who honors himself and lacks bread. 10 A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel. 11 He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who pursues worthless things lacks [e]sense. 12 The wicked man desires the [f]booty of evil men, But the root of the righteous yields fruit. 13 [g]An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will escape from trouble. 14 A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his [h]words, And the deeds of a man’s hands will return to him.

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there;2 and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus *said to Him, “They have no wine.”4 And Jesus *said to her, “Woman, [a]what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.”5 His mother *said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”6 Now there were six stone waterpots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing [b]twenty or thirty gallons each.7 Jesus *said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.8 And He *said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the [c]headwaiter.” So they took it to him.9 When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter *called the bridegroom,10 and *said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have [d]drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.”11 This beginning of His[e]signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.
12 After this He went down to Capernaum, He and His mother and His brothers and His disciples; and they stayed there a few days.

This should be taken by the person one hour prior getting into sexual practice; since, purchase cialis it takes 30 to 40 minutes to give response. 13 The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.14 And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables.15 And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables;16 and to those who were selling the doves He said, “Take these things away; stop making My Father’s house a [f]place of business.”17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house will consume me.”18 The Jews then said to Him, “What sign do You show us [g]as your authority for doing these things?”19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this [h]temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”20 The Jews then said, “It took forty-six years to build this [i]temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”21 But He was speaking of the [j]temple of His body.22 So when He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, observing His signs which He was doing.24 But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men,25 and because He did not need anyone to testify concerning man, for He Himself knew what was in man.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 [a]He was in the beginning with God.3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not [b]comprehend it.
The Witness John
6 There [c]came a man sent from God, whose name was John.7 [d]He came [e]as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him.8 [f]He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.
9 There was the true Light [g]which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.11 He came to His [h]own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,13 who were [i]born, not of [j]blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
The Word Made Flesh
14 And the Word became flesh, and [k]dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of [l]the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.15 John *testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me [m]has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’”16 For of His fullness [n]we have all received, and [o]grace upon grace.17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth [p]were realized through Jesus Christ.18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.
The Testimony of John
19 This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”20 And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not [q]the Christ.”21 They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he *said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”22 Then they said to him, “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”23 He said, “I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”
24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.25 They asked him, and said to him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the [r]Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”26 John answered them saying, “I baptize [s]in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.27 It is He who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”28 These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 The next day he *saw Jesus coming to him and *said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!30 This is He on behalf of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who [t]has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’31 I did not recognize [u]Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing [v]in water.”32 John testified saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.33 I did not recognize [w]Him, but He who sent me to baptize [x]in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes [y]in the Holy Spirit.’34 I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”
Jesus’ Public Ministry, First Converts
35 Again the next day John was standing [z]with two of his disciples,36 and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and *said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.38 And Jesus turned and saw them following, and *said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?”39 He *said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the [aa]tenth hour.40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.41 He *found first his own brother Simon and *said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means [ab]Christ).42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of [ac]John; you shall be called Cephas” (which is translated [ad]Peter).
43 The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He *found Philip. And Jesus *said to him, “Follow Me.”44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.45 Philip *found Nathanael and *said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”46 Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip *said to him, “Come and see.”47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and *said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”48 Nathanael *said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”49 Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.”50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”51 And He *said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

BOOK 2
Thirsting for God in Trouble and Exile.
For the choir director. A [a]Maskil of the sons of Korah.
As the deer [b]pants for the water brooks, So my soul [c]pants for You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and [d]appear before God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” 4 These things I remember and I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go along with the throng and[e]lead them in procession to the house of God, With the voice of joy and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.

5 Why are you [f]in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? [g]Hope in God, for I shall [h]again praise [i]Him For the [j]help of His presence. 6 O my God, my soul is [k]in despair within me; Therefore I remember You from the land of the Jordan And the [l]peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar. 7 Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls; All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me. 8 The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime; And His song will be with me in the night, A prayer to the God of my life.
9 I will say to God my rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning [m]because of the oppression of the enemy?” 10 As a shattering of my bones, my adversaries revile me, While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” 11 Why are you [n]in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? [o]Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, The [p]help of my countenance and my God.
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing;5 and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living One among the dead?6 He is not here, but He has [a]risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee,7 saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”8 And they remembered His words,9 and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.10 Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles.11 But these words appeared [b]to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them.12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he *saw the linen wrappings [c]only; and he went away to his home, marveling at what had happened.
The Road to Emmaus
13 And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was [d]about seven miles from Jerusalem.14 And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place.15 While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them.16 But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him.17 And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they stood still, looking sad.18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, “Are You [e]the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days?”19 And He said to them, “What things?” And they said to Him, “The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people,20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him.21 But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened.22 But also some women among us amazed us. When they were at the tomb early in the morning,23 and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive.24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.”25 And He said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!26 Was it not necessary for the [f]Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?”27 Then beginning [g]with Moses and [h]with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.
28 And they approached the village where they were going, and He acted as though He were going farther.29 But they urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day [i]is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them.30 When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them.31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from [j]their sight.32 They said to one another, “[k]Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was [l]explaining the Scriptures to us?”33 And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found gathered together the eleven and those who were with them,34 saying, “The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon.”35 They began to relate [m]their experiences on the road and how He was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread. Other Appearances
36 While they were telling these things, He Himself stood in their midst and *said to them, “Peace be to you.”37 But they were startled and frightened and thought that they were seeing a spirit.38 And He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your [n]hearts?39 See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”40 And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.41 While they still [o]could not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”42 They gave Him a piece of a broiled fish;43 and He took it and ate it before them.
44 Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”45 Then He opened their [p]minds to understand the Scriptures,46 and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the [q]Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day,47 and that repentance [r]for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed [s]in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.48 You are witnesses of these things.49 And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
The Ascension
50 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them.51 While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven.52 And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,53 and were continually in the temple [t]praising God.
Then the whole body of them got up and brought Him before Pilate.2 And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is [a]Christ, a King.”3 So Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And He answered him and said, “It is as you say.”4 Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.”5 But they kept on insisting, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching all over Judea, starting from Galilee even as far as this place.”
6 When Pilate heard it, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.7 And when he learned that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself also was in Jerusalem [b]at that time.
Jesus before Herod
8 Now Herod was very glad when he saw Jesus; for he had wanted to see Him for a long time, because he had been hearing about Him and was hoping to see some [c]sign performed by Him.9 And he questioned Him [d]at some length; but He answered him nothing.10 And the chief priests and the scribes were standing there, accusing Him vehemently.11 And Herod with his soldiers, after treating Him with contempt and mocking Him, dressed Him in a gorgeous robe and sent Him back to Pilate.12 Now Herod and Pilate became friends with one another that very day; for before they had been enemies with each other.
Pilate Seeks Jesus’ Release
13 Pilate summoned the chief priests and the rulers and the people,14 and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one who incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no guilt in this man regarding the charges which you make against Him.15 No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him.16 Therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”17 [[e]Now he was obliged to release to them at the feast one prisoner.]
18 But they cried out all together, saying, “Away with this man, and release for us Barabbas!”19 (He was one who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection made in the city, and for murder.)20 Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, addressed them again,21 but they kept on calling out, saying, “Crucify, crucify Him!”22 And he said to them the third time, “Why, what evil has this man done? I have found in Him no guilt demanding death; therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”23 But they were insistent, with loud voices asking that He be crucified. And their voices began to prevail.24 And Pilate pronounced sentence that their demand be granted.25 And he released the man they were asking for who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, but he delivered Jesus to their will.
Simon Bears the Cross
26 When they led Him away, they seized a man, Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carry behind Jesus.
27 And following Him was a large crowd of the people, and of women who were [f]mourning and lamenting Him.28 But Jesus turning to them said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.29 For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’30 Then they will begin tosay to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’31 For if they do these things [g]when the tree is green, what will happen [h]when it is dry?”
32 Two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him.
The Crucifixion
33 When they came to the place called [i]The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.34 [j]But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.35 And the people stood by, looking on. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the [k]Christ of God, His Chosen One.”36 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, offering Him sour wine,37 and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!”38 Now there was also an inscription above Him, “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
39 One of the criminals who were hanged there was [l]hurling abuse at Him, saying, “Are You not the [m]Christ? Save Yourself and us!”40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?41 And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving [n]what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”42 And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come [o]in Your kingdom!”43 And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”
44 It was now about [p]the sixth hour, and darkness [q]fell over the whole land until [r]the ninth hour,45 [s]because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn [t]in two.46 And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.47 Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, “Certainly this man was [u]innocent.”48 And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, when they observed what had happened, began to return, [v]beating their breasts.49 And all His acquaintances and the women who accompanied Him from Galilee were standing at a distance, seeing these things.
Jesus Is Buried
50 And a man named Joseph, who was a member of the Council, a good and righteous man51 (he had not consented to their plan and action), a man from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was waiting for the kingdom of God;52 this man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.53 And he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever lain.54 It was the [w]preparation day, and the Sabbath was about to [x]begin.55 Now the women who had come with Him out of Galilee followed, and saw the tomb and how His body was laid.56 Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes.
And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

10 But You, O Lord, be gracious to me and raise me up, That I may repay them. 11 By this I know that You are pleased with me, Because my enemy does not shout in triumph over me. 12 As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, And You set me in Your presence forever.
